We celebrated unity and tradition through Eid and Onam, honored the invaluable bond with family on Grand Parents Day, and explored nature with World Coconut Day and World Bamboo Day. The Blue Day event was a sensory highlight. Most meaningfully, our first Parent Teacher Meeting, serving as a structured Facilitator Parent Learner (FPL) Conference, cemented the partnership between home and school, proving that academic assessment can be a joyful, collaborative moment.
In the classroom, children mastered both the first and second sets of phonics, solidified their pre-number and counting skills in Math, and engaged with new Montessori sensorial lessons to boost concentration and logical thinking. With these achievements and strengthened community bonds, we look ahead to October, which will bring the energy of traditional festivities and a continued commitment to comprehensive cognitive growth.
September Highlights:
We celebrated World Coconut Day by exploring the versatility of this "Tree of Life." Children engaged their senses with the unique tactile texture of coconut shell pieces to create a beautiful craft. They carefully pasted the rough pieces onto a drawing of a tender coconut, reinforcing fine motor skills, visual-motor integration, and crucial pre-writing coordination. Teachers guided them in creating a coir-like border and explaining how the hard shell protects the sweet, healthy water inside. This sensory activity fostered a joyful connection with nature while building essential grip strength and concentration.
Eid brought beautiful colours and a feeling of togetherness as children arrived in their festive ethnic wear. Teachers shared simple stories about kindness and community, fostering gratitude in the little ones. Children focused intently to create a beautiful symbolic craft, featuring a glittery crescent and star on a popsicle stick with a ribbon. The creation of this craft enhanced concentration and precise fine motor control. Posing proudly with their creations, the children shared a joyful, hands-on experience of cultural unity and reinforced social-emotional skills.
Onam brought the vibrant colours and traditions of Kerala to our school. Children came dressed in beautiful ethnic wear, sharing smiles and festive joy. The highlight was creating a Pookalam (floral carpet) together. Little hands carefully placed fresh petals to form intricate designs, learning about colors, textures, and crucial pattern recognition. This collaborative art project nurtured fine motor skills and a sense of shared community as they created beautiful visual art together.
Grand Parents Day was filled with affection, honoring the love and wisdom of our elders, aligning with the broader recognition of Grandchildren Day. Children poured their hearts into creating a special card featuring cotton-ball hair to represent their grandparents. Under gentle guidance, they carefully pasted the pieces onto a heart shape, strengthening their fine motor skills and focus. This sweet activity nurtured social-emotional learning skills by fostering respect for elders and celebrating deep family bonds and heritage.
September marked a milestone with our first Parent-Teacher Meeting, serving as our foundational Facilitator Parent Learner (FPL) Conference for the academic year. The Head of School and Class Teacher met with parents to share the child’s learning journey since June. Parents were delighted to see their child's progress, craft work, and assessment sheets. This meeting wasn't about judgment; it was a testament to our commitment to quality. By reviewing student learning progress together, our parent partnership deepened, creating a powerful, shared commitment to the child’s holistic growth.
International Chocolate Day brought a sweet celebration to our classrooms. Children enjoyed a sensory art activity using stencils and sponges to create their very own chocolate lollipops. The careful dabbing and lifting of the stencil developed refined grasp control, bilateral integration, and crucial hand-eye coordination, showcasing the magical neatness of tiny fingers. This delightful craft allowed for creative expression and a joyful exploration of shapes and textures.
We celebrated World Bamboo Day, reflecting on the strength and resilience of this remarkable plant—a wonderful symbol for our growing children. Little ones observed a living bamboo plant, then used paper strips to construct their own artistic stalks and leaves, focusing on pasting skills and hand-eye coordination. This activity nurtured a connection with nature and emphasized the importance of building strong roots and foundations, just like the bamboo, ready for future cognitive development.
September turned our school into a serene blue sky for Blue Day! Children arrived in beautiful blue attire, posing proudly amidst the creative décor. They engaged in hands-on activities, including a fun fishing game using a strainer, which refined their concentration and focus. Discussions around the blue items they brought from home boosted their vocabulary and color recognition skills. Creating fish craft with ice cream sticks and engaging in straw-painting added a layer of creative, sensorial joy and promoted emotional regulation.
Amidst all the cheerful celebrations, our focused academic learning continued its joyful progress. Kreedo curriculumblended with Montessori sensorial lessons, like the pegging activity and height cylinder work, nurtured focus, fine motor development, and logical thinking. In English, children mastered both the first and second sets of phonics letters (c,a,p,t,i,n and b,o,g,m,u,s), solidifying early literacy foundations. Math moved from number identification to advanced mathematics counting skills through playful materials. These activities ensure children build strong foundations in a joyful environment where holistic growth and play are synonymous.
